Lindsey - May 2018

Our stay was our first holiday with a new baby and the cottage couldn’t have been easier. The location is perfect; you just walk out the door and you're amongst the shops and restaurants and only about 5 minutes from the sea front. But despite this it was nice and peaceful. There is easy parking and it’s very pram accessible. Helen's communication was quick and helpful and with a cot, bath seat and sweet books all laid out for our arrival. She couldn’t have made it any easier for us. I have already recommended it to many friends, including those with children.

Clare - February 2018

I booked the Old Barrel Store for a work colleague who was in Margate. The accommodation is beautiful and right in the middle of the Old Town with its vintage shops and lovely cafes. Helen was a great host - really helpful and communicative before and during the trip. I would definitely book here again.

Helen is a very welcoming host. The property is excellent; ideally situated and exactly as described ... also do not underestimate how useful it is to have a designated parking spot in Margate ... We would thoroughly recommend the coastal walk from Margate to just past Broadstairs (3-4 hours) ... easy, flat walking and ending up at the Belle Vue Tavern in Pegwell. You can get a local taxi back to Margate for £7 ...

Cosy home. Fantastic location. Bonus of car park space. Helen included nice little touches e.g. kids books left on each child’s bed and a bottle of red for mum and dad.

Emma - December 2017

Great location in the Old Town of Margate, near the beach, restaurants, pubs and shops, with the rare benefit of a designated parking spot. The property was spotlessly clean and adequate accommodation for 4 people who are using it as a base to explore Margate and the Kent coast. Helen was a great host and very responsive.

Perfect base for first family holiday - We had a lovely first family holiday in Margate, and The Old Barrel Store made it for us. It had everything you could possibly need for a young baby, and the local recommendations provided were spot on. Great location, too.

LifeinHerault - July 2015

Well positioned and very comfortable - We have just returned from a week at the Old Barrel Store. The accommodation is well furnished and guests are very well provided for. The garden is small, and the perfect size for sitting out. The house is close to the centre of town, but very quiet. The bedrooms are small, but adequate. We had our grandson with us for some of the time and he greatly enjoyed the garden and even stayed over with us. Recommended!

Family-size cottage in the heart of Old Town Margate - What a lovely little house. The Old Barrel Store has everything it needs and nothing it doesn't - it's a very simple two bedroom period house with a garden space (quite rare for a Margate holiday rental), which makes it a great place to take kids if you can't spend every single second at the beach, although ours tried to. The beach is only about three minutes walk away anyway - as is the Turner Contemporary Gallery, with its restaurant - the house really is right in the heart of the Old Town. It's tucked in a quiet little court just off King Street, which has lots of great vintage clothes shops and old junk shops. You couldn't really be more central, but the location of the house, just off to one side of the street, means it's very peaceful at night. It is also very nicely decorated and has some lovely art on the walls. Great for families and feels ever so calm and restful inside. Very snuggly bedrooms.

Comfortable, full of character, and right in the centre of Margate — Perfect - We travelled to Margate with our 21 month old son and had a lovely nights' stay in the Old Barrel Store. We can't recommend the place enough, not only did we have two comfy bedrooms (with super cosy bedding), but the kitchen / living room / garden make for an ideal entertaining spot. The owners have thought of everything — so while our toddler got stuck into the 'treasure chest' of toys and games we were able to have a glass of wine and a chat in the sunny garden, bliss. It is very centrally located, so bars and restaurants are just a short walk away, as are some of Margate's great vintage and clothes shops. We will definitely be staying again.
